Instructions on how to become a reviewer
[edit]Any registered user may request permission to review images from the community on Commons:License review/Requests, so that the community can voice their opinions.
After a few days, a reviewer or administrator determines whether there are no severe objections to the candidate. If there are not, the user will close the request and grant permission. See here for details.
To become a reviewer one needs to be familiar with the general licensing policy of Commons. A reviewer is required to know which Creative Commons licenses are allowed and disallowed on Wikimedia Commons.
For more information see Commons:Flickr files. If permissions are granted you can add {{User reviewer}} (or one of its variants) to your user page and begin reviewing images.
Instructions for reviewers
[edit]- Detailed instructions can be found on {{Flickrreview}}.
- Images needing your help are in Category:Flickr images needing human review.
- Consider whether the picture on Flickr was really made by the Flickr user. Many Flickr users have no clue about copyrights and try to "freely" license images for which they do not own the copyright! See Commons:Questionable Flickr images.
- If the uploader was not the author (the only way to be sure is for the Flickr user to post their Commons ID on the Flickr user page), check to ensure the Flickr user actually freely licensed the photo and that the correct license was cited by the uploader.
- Consider leaving a thank-you message on the Flickr image page (this requires a Flickr account). You can use the following message template:
- You might copy the source code of this table into your user page and put your username into it. It helps with the copy and paste work, since the date is changed automatically and there are templates for every case of license. If the server forgets to change after midnight UTC, you can use the purge link to refresh.

- Alternatively, you may consider adding the following script to your vector.js file or monobook.js file, which will automatically add flickrreview "passed" and "copyvio" tabs at the top of the screen and flickr tools to the toolbox. Make sure to do a full refresh after changing your monobook or vector:
importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js');
List of reviewers
[edit]There are currently 520 users who can review files.
An automated list of reviewers can be found at Special:ListUsers/image-reviewer. And under Special:ListUsers/sysop, a list of administrators, who are also allowed to license-review images, can be found.
