Ipoh is a city located in Perak where many locals and tourists alike would travel all around on a hunt for good food and fun activities. If you’re a nature lover or an adventure junkie, you’ll love to know that there are many Ipoh outdoor activities to explore by yourself or with your loved ones. 

 

The route distance and travel time from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh would be around 2 hours and 30 minutes whereas if you’re travelling from Penang, it would be around 2 hours and 15 minutes. 

Kledang Hill

Located at the top of a hill in Ipoh, Kledang Hill remains an Ipoh attraction that many locals and tourists head to for a good hike during the morning or evening. The hill goes up to 800 metres tall and consists of multiple trails surrounding different parts of the hill. 

 

There’s also a mini waterfall which you’ll encounter on the way up. One thing to bear in mind is that the route is quite steep. It’s best to reach there before 9am as well if you’re planning on going for a morning hike as it would be more chilly and cooling. 

 

Time Needed: Around 1 hour to reach the viewpoint (one-way trip), 2 and a half hours (round trip)

Gopeng Rainforest White Water Rafting

For those who are adventure seekers, Gopeng Rainforest needs to be on your itinerary because it’s where you can do a bunch of outdoor activities in Ipoh! Situated around Koper district, the rainforest is filled with various flora and fauna. 

 

Gopeng Rainforest is an exciting Ipoh attraction due to the fact that you can jump on a raft and cruise along the River Kampur while taking in the scenic, breathtaking views. Be prepared to fall into the river too! 

 

The water isn’t that deep, making it safe for kids or beginners. The water levels are based on season, so if you prefer high water levels, visit during October to December.

3. Qing Xin Ling Leisure & Cultural Village

It may be complicated to get here, but it doesn’t stop tourists or locals from heading to this Ipoh attraction that’s worth all the trouble to find! The location is around a residential area and the entrance is quite narrow, hence why it’s easy to miss.

 

Qing Xin Ling, which literally translates to ‘serene hill’ in Mandarin, is commonly referred to as being similar to Guilin in China, making it one of the most interesting places in Ipoh. You could rent a bicycle or trishaw and ride along the park, explore the limestone hills and feed the fishes in the pond. 

 

This Ipoh attraction is closed on Public Holidays so do take note of that as well!

4. Gaharu Tea Valley

The view at Gaharu Tea Valley is somewhat similar to Cameron Highlands! Except you can’t feel the cooling weather, of course, it’s one of the places for Ipoh sightseeing as you will be surrounded by nature.

 

There are 3 main areas in this Ipoh attraction: a cafe, a pathway to stroll along the forest and the Lover’s Tree which are two very large trees as well as a fish pond. Little kids would find this to be one of the most interesting places in Ipoh! 

 

Essentially after walking around the area, you’ll come back learning a thing or two of Gaharu Tea.

5. Lost World Of Tambun

If you’re looking for something that’s filled with fun activities in Ipoh, the Lost World of Tambun consists of up to 88 attractions, 10 parks and 123 animal species! 

 

Grab all your loved ones especially those with kids and head on over to this Ipoh attraction built within the 400 million-year-old limestone hills. There’s also a night park where you can take a dip into the Lost World Hot Springs & Spa featuring up to 12 pools. 

 

The Steam Cave is something that you shouldn’t miss as it detoxifies your skin, leaving you refreshed and clean so you can de-stress at the same time.

6. Perak Tong Cave

If you were to ask a local staying in Ipoh, they would mention Perak Tong Cave as one of the best Ipoh sightseeing spots around! 

 

Though you may need to climb several stairs all around the cave, it’s worth the exercise as you can see more than 30 Buddha statues along with various other Buddha and Chinese Gods. There are various paintings drawn on different sides of the caves too.

 

Be sure to take the long flight (around 30 minutes to and fro) up to get a good view of Ipoh city.

7. Kellie’s Castle

Another iconic Ipoh attraction would be none other than Kellie’s Castle. This castle has been known to be haunted as well, hence why it’s one of the most interesting places in Ipoh, but up to this date there’s no real evidence about it. 

 

Kellie’s Castle is a Scottish Mansion that represents a lot of history – it was built by William Kellie Smith for his wife or as a home for his son. In the castle, you can see what every room represents such as the living room and so on. Look out for special, secret passages too!

 

Do take note it can be pretty hot and humid around 12pm to 3pm, so bring an umbrella if you plan on going during those timings.

8. Kok Lok Tong Cave Temple

Ipoh is filled with various caves that are worth a visit! Kok Lok Tong Cave Temple is an Ipoh attraction that is one of the top must-visit places because of the spacious and attractive lake garden in the middle. Unlike other caves, this cave is very large and is similar to a haven for nature. 

 

Aside from being one of the most attractive Ipoh sightseeing spots for nature lovers, it’s also the perfect place for Instagrammable shots.
